Every night at Rōnin, Chef Liam Lee is the one behind the counter creating surprises, course after course, plate after plate. But this week, the surprise was on him.

To celebrate Chef Liam’s birthday, the Rōnin team quietly planned a little ambush of our own. Midway through the evening, the lights dimmed, a birthday cake appeared, and the whole room, team and guests alike, broke into song and cheers.

What made the night truly special was our guests. Diners who had come for an omakase experience found themselves part of an impromptu birthday party, sharing cake, raising glasses, and joining in the warm wishes. The energy in the room was electric, laughter echoing off the counter, candles glowing, and a very caught-off-guard chef at the centre of it all.

It was a beautiful reminder of what Rōnin is all about: not just food, but the moments and connections shared around the counter.
