Omakase Melbourne: A Korean Fusion Tasting Counter
Omakase in Melbourne
Omakase translates as “I leave it up to you”. There is no menu and no ordering: the chef decides every course, guided by the produce and the season.
Melbourne’s omakase rooms are small, book out fast and mostly follow the Japanese Edomae tradition. Rōnin Ōmakase took a different path: the city’s first Korean fusion omakase, opened in 2023 on Little Collins St.
Korean Roots,
Australian Produce
Instead of sushi rice and Edomae technique, the courses build on Korean flavours: fermentation, jang, charcoal, and the multi-course structure of traditional hanjungsik dining.
The produce is Australian and seasonal, so the set changes constantly. Read about the philosophy on the omakase experience page or see the counter in the gallery.
What to Expect
Ten seats around an open counter, about ten courses, roughly two hours. Every dish is finished in front of you.
The current soft launch price is A$195 per guest. Arrive a few minutes early: service starts within 15 minutes of the session time and courses already served cannot be delayed for late arrivals.
